There are some great alternatives to the things that you can’t eat, but they require a bit more time to make, and you will need the right kitchen setup too. Getting the right equipment in your kitchen can take your vegan cooking game to the next level and help you prepare some amazing dishes. These are the most important pieces of equipment for any vegan’s kitchen.
A blender is an absolute godsend when you are trying to make vegan food because there are so many amazing things you can do with it. For example, you can make a delicious cheese substitute by blending up some soaked cashews. It’s perfect for blending sauces of any kind too, so you can pack more flavour in without relying on things like butter and cream. Whipping up some aquafaba (the water from a can of chickpeas) makes a brilliant substitute for egg whites. You can even make some delicious vegan summer drinks and make your own nut milks using a blender. A Soup Maker
If you want an easy lunch that is packed full of veggies, soup is the perfect option. It gets a bit of a bad name and people always think it’s boring, but there are plenty of exciting soup recipes you can try, you don’t have to go for a boring tomato or potato and leek. If you invest in a good quality soup maker, it’s so easy to make up a big batch. You can freeze the portions so you always have a delicious lunch on hand when you’re in a rush.
A Tofu Press
If you eat a lot of tofu, pressing it can be a bit of a nightmare. You can wrap it in a tea towel and stick it between some plates but you’ll end up making a mess every time. If you have this problem a lot, it’s worth investing in a tofu press. It’s much easier to get a nice crisp on the outside if you press all of the water out properly. It works much better when baking it too. You can store your tofu in the press for a couple of days in the fridge so it’s easy to prepare beforehand without any of the mess.
A Griddle Pan
Griddle pans are brilliant for adding a burst of flavour to vegetables, tofu, seitan or whatever else you want to put in there. You get those delicious grill marks on it and it comes out so much nicer than it would from a normal frying pan. This one is particularly good if you are trying to convert friends and family to vegan food and you want to make it look as good as it tastes.
