Why Dishoom Is So Great
I know Dishoom is a bit of a controversial restaurant. Some people (me) adore it, whereas others think it’s a false representation of Indian food. I get that it’s not the only Indian restaurant in London worth going to, but I’m a huge fan, so it’s the one I go back to all the time. Not least because vegans are made to feel so welcome there.
We know that Indian cuisine has always been brilliant for veggies, but Dishoom take it one step further with their extensive vegan menu and I for one, adore them for it!
Does anyone else always crave a dollop of yogurt alongside most Indian dishes? Most restaurants don’t have dairy-free options so I always feel a bit flat after my meal.
Dishoom, however, serve coconut yogurt as part of their Coconut Granola breakfast dish. I discovered this recently and asked to swap the plain yogurt from a particular dish and they were more than happy to oblige. Since then, I’ve asked in numerous different branches, and they’ve all done the same, which is brilliant!
My favourite dishes
For dinner, which is the meal I usually go for, I always order the jackfruit biryani with a side of coconut yogurt. I’m a creature of habit, so I’ve always ordered that since I discovered it. I found a recipe for it online, but it’s such a long process and there’s no guarantee it’ll turn out exactly the same either, so I haven’t attempted it.

In the past, I’ve had the Chole Puri; chickpea curry with fried puri, Chilli Cheese Toast and Okra Fries – all of which are delicious! Next on my list to try is the House Black Daal as my sister raves about it (she’s also a big fan). Though I feel it probably contains too much dairy for my stomach to handle, which is a shame.
I haven’t been to Dishoom for breakfast yet, but I have my eye on the Beyond Sausage Naan Roll; a freshly baked vegan naan, graced with vegan cheese, chilli tomato jam and fresh herbs, wrapped around choicest vegan sausage. Yum!
